Some Tips for Models - With the Internet in Mind
Books on modeling and photography.

Getting started

  • Ask yourself if you are serious about modeling.

  • Take an honest look at yourself and decide what type of modeling would be best for you.

  • Find some books on modeling and/or photography.

  • Get some photos taken that you can be proud of and make sure people see them.

  • Get some photos scanned and get some web space somewhere. If you have to, use free web servers like Tripod or Geocities.

  • Put your portfolio on some of the popular modeling sites, like GlamourModels.

  • Visit some modeling message boards and read some posts to learn what you can about modeling.

  • Post some messages with some pertinent info and photos.

  • Be honest, reliable, and enthusiastic. Go for it!

    Safety Tips

  • Keep in mind that the internet, by its very nature, is anonymous. This means you need to take a cautious, informed approach to your modeling.

  • Never put your full address or phone number on any post in a modeling forum or other public area.

  • Be very careful regarding posts and e-mail from anyone with a generic (hotmail, yahoo, etc.) e-mail address.

  • Find out as much as you can about those you are considering working with. Ask around.

  • Make sure you see examples of their work. And specificly, examples of what they want to use you for.

  • Ask for references from other models about those you are considering working with.

  • Be certain to get a verifiable home and/or studio phone number, and street address, for anyone you work with.   Especially if you are meeting somewhere.

  • Be sure you have telephone contact with your potential employer before agreeing to a shoot. Make sure you feel confident about what you're doing and who you're meeting. If there's doubt in your mind, check into things further or do not agree to the shoot.

  • Be very clear about what kind of work you are looking for, and what kind of work you will not accept.

  • Make sure that someone knows where you are during and after any shoots.

  • Never travel on a shoestring and have a back-up plan if things don't work out exactly as planned. There could come a time where you have to pay for your own food, hotel and trip back home.

  • Do not respond to rude emails, doing so will just invite further responses.

Internet Jobs - Some tips on how to get more modeling work from the internet

  • The many online Modeling Forums and Message Boards are a great way to learn more about the world of modeling and also a great way to let the world know about yourself.

  • Check the modeling forums for messages from photographers looking for models.

  • If you post looking for modeling work, be sure to include some info about yourself, including where you live, and include a photo with your post.

  • Before posting a message looking for modeling work, be sure to understand how to include your photo and website link with the message. See below for information on how to include a photo with your post.

  • Don't post the same message to a lot of different message boards on the same day. Spread them out for maximum exposure.

  • If a photographer has a web site, go there before asking them for information.

  • Try to respond quickly to requests from photographers, so they remember who you are and what you look like. And be enthusiastic!

  • When responding to email, make sure you try to respond to ALL the questions asked. Don't give out your home phone number or address until you're confident in the person's legitimacy and you feel you're ready to work.

  • Always put your website address or portfolio link under your name in your emails so potential employers can look you up quickly..

  • Try to be clear from the start as to what kind of work you're looking for and what kinds of work you will accept.

  • Get yourself listed on as many of the busiest modeling sites as you can.

  • Keep in mind that modeling is a business, not a personal venture. You need to be prepared to negotiate with prospective employers, regarding everything from pay to content. Don't just drop out of contact because you don't like what's offered - either negotiate or say, "Thanks, but no thanks." You never know, the employer you turn down could well have your dream job later - and if you treat him or her rudely or with disrespect, you'll likely have burned your bridges with that person.

How to add an image to a post on a modeling message board or forum.

To add an image to your post: You must first have your image on a server (or web space) somewhere where it can be accessed from the internet. You are simply linking to an image by entering the URL (or path) to the image location in the space provided when you post a message.

    Like this:
    Image URL: Always double-check it!
Remember that the path and image name are case senstive, so capitalization, or lack of it, counts. On some forums, when you post a message you will first be able to preview your message before you actually post it. If that is the case, the image will show up on the preview page if you have entered the path to the image properly. Then you can make sure the image will be viewable before you actually post your message. If you don't see it, then you made a mistake. Use your browser's go back button to make corrections and try again.
